How to Plan a Home Renovation Budget

Setting a realistic budget is the most important step in any renovation. It shapes what you can achieve, which materials you choose and how smoothly the project runs.
Start with your priorities
List what must happen (structural repairs, rewiring, a new kitchen) and what would be nice to have. If costs rise, you will know what can wait.
What to include
- Building work and labour
- Materials, fixtures and fittings
- Design, structural engineer and planning fees, if needed
- Building Control and certification
- Waste removal and skip licences
- A contingency of 10 to 15 percent
Get itemised quotes
An itemised quote shows exactly what is included, so you can compare builders properly and see where money is going. Our quotes are fixed and broken down by trade.
Where you can save
Keeping plumbing in the same place, choosing mid-range fittings for less-used rooms and decorating yourself can all reduce costs. Spend on things that are hard to change later, such as structure, insulation, wiring and pipework.
Phasing the work
If the budget does not stretch to everything at once, we can plan the project in stages so each phase is finished properly and nothing has to be undone later.
